A Click is the Pathway to a Sale

Sure, clicks aren’t currency. You can’t spend a click, and a click won’t buy you a new Louis Vuitton or a Rolex. But each click represents a person, and a person has potential to buy. In fact, more potential than just a random person on the street, because they sought out your website, they showed interest and subscribed to your email list, and they opened the email directly and landed on your site. The more people that visit your site, the more money you can make.

Email Campaigns vs. The Vast Void of Social Media

It’s the difference between speaking directly to a friend or shouting through a megaphone to people scrambling on the street below. Email is a personal, private account; and when you reach out to people through email, it’s as if you’re speaking directly to them. On social media sites, the message is for everyone who is willing to listen, and it’s more like shouting into the void. This is why it’s easier for people to ignore Twitter and Facebook posts but still open up that one email.

As Derek invites you to do, think about how many emails you get in day, and compare that to the number of tweets you receive. Quite a difference, right? Such is the same for most people, which is another reason why someone is more likely to open an email than follow a link posted on social media outlets.
