Lessons From the Arcade: Don’t Play Pinball in MLM

Think of a pinball machine: it’s You vs. the Steel Ball. You want to keep knocking that ball back into play, but the ball wants to get past the flippers and into the drain. The more agile your thumbs, the more the ball gets knocked around the machine, following a different course and gliding down only to get knocked back up again. You watch as the steel ball spins and bumps around under the glass, never following a straight path to success and into the gutter.

Imagine yourself as the steel ball and the drain as the ultimate success. The flippers are distractions or excuses that bounce you off the track to accomplishing your goals. Every time a setback or a “no” gets you down and stalls your plans, you’re knocked right back up to where you started. When you overlook potential customers or pass on useful marketing ideas, you’re veering off the path to success. Don’t get knocked around in network marketing; if you stay focused on the ultimate achievement, you’ll find the straight and narrow to success.

Network marketing is not an instant success phenomenon; no one gets anything out of it if they don’t put the time into it that it deserves. MLM requires constructing a business through sheer willpower and tenacity, and it takes time, energy, and necessary training to build this business. Typically, network marketing companies have very little overhead costs, it’s easy to enroll and it doesn’t require a huge investment. But this also poses a problem: because it’s so simple and low-cost, it makes it much easier to give up and put the products in a garage where they’ll never be seen or sold. Not such a big loss, right? Not so bad, until you think of all the potential that’s been squandered. It’s not just the enrollment fee and startup costs that’s been lost, it’s an entire self-sustaining business with passive income and personal freedom.

This is why we need to F.O.C.U.S. in network marketing: Follow One Course Until Successful. No matter what difficulties we’re met with or what excuses we have to allow ourselves to throw in the towel, we need to keep going until our goals have been accomplished. If we feel discouraged along the way, or if the business doesn’t take off immediately, it’s imperative to not give up. Stay the course and don’t veer off just because it’s difficult. Stay F.O.C.U.S.ed on the ultimate victory.

Narrow the Path to Success for More Power

Imagine a peaceful river, lolling about a picturesque countryside without a care in the world. The final destination is far off, and there’s no hurry to get there, the water just takes it’s time and meanders on it’s chosen path, weaving through the meadow. If we take that same water and add a little pressure, give it a task to complete (say, putting out a fire) and run it through a hose, that water will have the power and force several times that of the stream.

In network marketing, we have the choice to be the stagnant river or the powerful hose. If we sit back, relax and take things as they come instead of grabbing the reins and assuming control, we’ll always be far off from our destination. But if we take the same resources and add a little pressure and motivation, we’ll be so much more powerful. Find the path to success and go at it full steam.
